PATTERN SPOTLIGHT: Nia’s Scandi Tulips

Scandi Tulips - Nia O’Reilly-Amandes Design

I love tulips. They're so beautiful in their simplicity, and their understated shape is so charming. In the spring, there's a vase of yellow tulips on my dining room table at all times, and they make me so happy. The historical significance of tulips is fascinating, and while I'm glad they don't cost as much as a house nowadays, I fully understand Tulip Mania.

It's been delightful to see how tulips have emerged as a major design trend this year, and while the jaded side of me wants to say I thought of it first, the truth is that tulips are a timeless representation of joy, and that joy belongs to everyone.

When I was designing my logo for NOA Design, I knew I wanted to incorporate something personal, and of my favorite things, the ever-recognizable tulip is what made the cut. The shape is just so satisfying, and by including it in my design, I've ensured that my logo will make me happy every time I see it.

I took that initial tulip shape and expanded on it to make my Scandi Tulips pattern, one of the first patterns I created. This design, inspired by traditional Scandinavian textiles and folk art, went through many iterations, and after lots of tiny adjustments and major overhauls, I'm so happy with how it came out. Dropping in different colors has been so fun, and I plan to make new colorways seasonally. I know this is a pattern I'm going to want to keep active for a while, and I've already created the offshoot pattern Scandi Tulips Checkerboard, which is similarly happy-making.

There are two brand new colorways that I'm debuting here - sage green with lavender and cream, and mustard with dark blue and cream. Oh, I love them both!
